Brahms, Johannes


(1833-1897), German composer, had piano lessons from local teachers in Hamburg, toured Hungary with a violinist and met Joachim who recommended him to Liszt and Schumann, conducted the concerts of the gesellschaft der Musikfreunde, in 1877 Cambridge University offered him the degree of music doctor, Brahms composed "Academic Overure" for this occasion. he composed: 4 symphonies, concertos(1 violin, 1 double, and 2 piano), overtures, other orchestral music, chamber music(string quartets, trios, violin sonatas, quintets, sextets etc), piano music(sonatas, variations on a theme of Schumann, etc)
