Carvalho, Eleazar de


(1912-1996), Brazilian conductor, studied with Koussevitzky at the Berkshire, received PhD in music from Washington State U. in 1963, returned to Brazil held conducting positions with Orquestra Sinfonica Brasileira of Rio de Janeiro, and San Paulo. In US he taught at Hofstra Univ. , Juilliard, and Yale. He was a teacher to Abbado, Dutoit, Mehta, Ozawa etc.
