Chaliapin, Feodor


(1873-1938), Russian bass singer, after Caruso, the best-known opera singer of his time, received little musical training, joined a touring opera compnay, debut in 1890, and had professional lessons, joined an opera compnay in Moscow, sang in St. Petersburg, La Scala, NY Met, London Covent Garden etc.
